This article needs to be improved:
- ⚠️ Please clarify the purpose of the page, otherwise it may be deleted (all content will still be saved in our version history, so potentially useful pieces of information can still be copied to other pages). It is not immediately clear what the purpose of this article is. We try to organise all content on Activist Handbook by topic, and for each topic we add information about the different local contexts. This article seems to do it the other way around.
- This article contains possibly biased sources (only referring to US intelligence).
- Only use ‘/’ (slash) to indicate sub-pages. There is no article on intel, so the url of this article should not be ‘activisthandbook.org/intel/PESTLE’.
- Clarify the use of the PESTLE framework. Even though this framework may be useful, there are surely also other frameworks that could be used. Why did we chose to use this one specifically?
To be effective activists, we need to thoroughly understand the world in which we are operating. As many organisations, governments and businesses do, we can use the tool of PESTLE to gather information on different areas of society -from the local level to the global- and then analyse and process this information in different ways to feed into our strategies.
PESTLE (follow link for more info) refers to:
Political, Economic, Social (or Sociological), Technological, Legal and Environmental.
This is a simple guiding framework for the collection and processing of information.
If you have ideas on how to process information gathered from PESTLE, in order to serve different types of activism, then please develop this page.
Activist Handbook would like to see all countries of the world represented in PESTLE info-gathering and analyses. If we knew what was going on everywhere, all the time, imagine how effective our activism could be! This has to be balanced against information overload and ‘need to know’ qualification.
We seek changemakers and activists from every country to contribute to Activist Handbook. Please add PESTLE information to your country listed below. Activists are mainly encouraged only to submit information for countries they live in or have a strong connection to. However PESTLE can also be applied broadly to regions or continents, and everyone is encouraged to submit to the global PESTLE.
For PESTLE, objectivity is key. How can we make sure that the PESTLE information recorded in Activist Handbook is as scientific as possible and not based on the agendas and opinions of individual activists? This is an ongoing discussion. PESTLE analyses are often deliberately biased (e.g. seeking ways for businesses to grow) but for Activist Handbook we would like to try a more objective version of PESTLE. (However on the PESTLE processing page, ways of using PESTLE will develop).
After reading some basic resources online about PESTLE, please develop the PESTLE pages linked below for the continents, countries or regions you know about, or live in:
(Add a meta-region or improve a meta-region description if you think it's useful for the purposes of PESTLE information gathering and strategising)
